Over the past three years, Aurum Group freight transport operators, in particular “Trans Energy”, “Aurum Trans” and “Aurum Rail”, have invested about UAH 250 million in the construction of new gondola cars and grain hoppers, thus replenishing their own freight car fleet by 39%. In general, domestic consumption of newly built by Ukrainian railcar builders freight cars amounted to almost 80% in 2019.
“We annually update our freight car fleet with the most popular gondola cars and grain hoppers on the market. We believe that this is one of the investments that is effective for the Ukrainian economy because in the production of a freight car 97% of its cost is made up of domestic components manufactured by about 100 national enterprises. So, taking into account the multiplier effect, a total product worth about UAH 750 million was created in the country’s economy.” Alona Lebedieva, owner of “Aurum Group”, said.
However, unfortunately, over the past 5 years, almost half of the increase in the total freight car fleet in Ukraine was made by used freight cars, which were decommissioned and imported from the Russian Federation.
The number of railcars with extended service life in a private fleet has tripled for 5 years. It is due to these decommissioned in the Russian Federation cars that a surplus of rolling stock is now generated in Ukraine, making the purchase of domestic freight cars inappropriate.
